The Supers Stakes are known as the second leg of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Triple Crown. The first leg is the Futurity in December, and the final leg is the Derby in August. The Super Stakes began on March 27th this year, and will continue through April 19th. According to NCHA News, there were more entries in the Super Stakes this year than ever before, "proving that cutting is alive and well worldwide." The Super Stakes are open to horses that are 4, 5, or 6 years old. "The NCHA Super Stakes attracts the industry's most talented competitors, all vying for more than $2.9 million in prize money and a prestigious NCHA Triple Crown Championship title. This premier event will offer a second shot at stardom for horses that made their debut at the NCHA Futurity in December as 3-year-olds" (NCHA News). It's definitely an exciting competition!
On Sunday the 6th, Dan Churchill, the owner of the Circle C Ranch, competed on his mare Mates Hope, a 4-year-old by Smart Mate and out of one of the Circle C broodmares, Tornados Rey of Hope. Dan scored a 214.0, which was high enough that he got to compete in the finals in the Unlimited Amateur Division on Monday the 7th. Dan scored a 211.0 that night, putting him in 9th place out of 30 competitors! Congratulations to both Dan and Mates Hope!
Tonight, Circle C's trainer, Casey Carson, will be competing in the Open Division on the same mare, Mates Hope. We wish Casey and Mates Hope the best of luck tonight!
