Groundhog Day Baby

Born just after 11 pm on Groundhog Day, "Phil" is by Dual Rey, out of Garys Stray Cat. Because Garys Stray Cat was so successful in the cuttings we entered her in as a 4-year-old in 2013, we have high hopes for this first foal of hers. Phil is pictured below with a recipient mare.

The Hooves of Horses

"The hooves of horses!

Oh! witching and sweet

Is the music earth steals from the iron-shod feet;

No whisper of love, no trilling of bird,

Can stir me as much as hooves of horses

Have stirred."

Attention!

I love watching horses when something grabs their attention, they stop what they're doing, and they focus both eyes and ears on whatever it is that they find so captivating at that moment in time.

Smart Mate x Hickorys Badgerina bay filly.

Halreycious x Mates Memory sorrel filly.

Metallic Cat x Hickorys Tornado Rio red roan filly.

I caught these three yearlings in this position today. If you're wondering what they're all looking at, I must admit that I have no idea. I looked over there and didn't see any cause for concern, at least not in my opinion.

These pictures makes me think of a general in a military movie yelling "Atten-tion!!!," causing each filly to immediately respond by standing up straight and giving their undivided attention.

Then & Now

This drizzly, dreary day has made us here at the Circle C look forward to the summer. Thinking of summer, I was inspired to look through some of the my pictures from last summer, and to try to get the same sort of shot today that I got then.

Obviously this filly, by Halreycious and out of Mates Memory (pictured below), was weaned quite some time ago, is almost a year older, and is standing a little farther North and farther from the trees, but it's pretty close to the same spot. I think it shows a good comparison between this muddy mess we've got today and the lush, green summer we're looking forward to (at least until we remember how terribly hot it can get during the day in the summertime!).
