Too Much Fun

This adorable little filly was born less than a week ago, and is already having way too much fun racing around the pasture and keeping things lively.

                                                

She is by Metallic Cat, and out of Hickorys Badgerina. Hickorys Badgerina is one of our Circle C broodmares, and dam of NCHA earners in excess of $200,000, including Hick Of A Mate, Badgerina In Levis, and Badgerinas CD Lights. 

Pregnant Ladies

I loved this picture of two of the last pregnant ladies on the ranch still carrying 2014 foals having breakfast together. When I first brought this recipient mare down to the barn to start foal watch a couple of weeks ago, the pony was in the neighboring pasture. This mare just about ripped my arm off trying to pull back and get away when she first caught a glimpse of this diminutive pony. It took me forever to coax her through the gate because she had to get closer to the pony in order to get into her pasture. Now they're buddies, of course.

The bay paint is the last recipient mare I have to foal out this year. She is carrying the much-anticipated Garys Stray Cat x Halreycious foal. The pony, Raindrop, belongs to Casey's six-year-old son and is carrying a surprise (we don't know what bred her before she came to live here or when she's due). Raindrop's foal will cause just as much excitement when she has it, though, because we're all looking forward to seeing such a tiny baby! Below is Raindrop's glamour shot.

Lightning Strike

This little filly out of Tornados Rey of Hope by Boon San was born on Easter morning. I love her lightning bolt!

More pictures are coming soon of all of the new additions to our growing herd of foals. We only have one pregnant mare left to foal out this year! Breeding/foaling season is winding down...

Nice Day for a Nap

I wanted to get some good pictures of the new foals this morning, but none of the horses wanted to be disturbed, apparently. Instead, I got some great shots of adorable, sleeping babies!

Super Stakes!

Those in the cutting world know that the 2014 Super Stakes are in full swing at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas!

The Supers Stakes are known as the second leg of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Triple Crown. The first leg is the Futurity in December, and the final leg is the Derby in August. The Super Stakes began on March 27th this year, and will continue through April 19th. According to NCHA News, there were more entries in the Super Stakes this year than ever before, "proving that cutting is alive and well worldwide." The Super Stakes are open to horses that are 4, 5, or 6 years old. "The NCHA Super Stakes attracts the industry's most talented competitors, all vying for more than $2.9 million in prize money and a prestigious NCHA Triple Crown Championship title. This premier event will offer a second shot at stardom for horses that made their debut at the NCHA Futurity in December as 3-year-olds" (NCHA News). It's definitely an exciting competition!

On Sunday the 6th, Dan Churchill, the owner of the Circle C Ranch, competed on his mare Mates Hope, a 4-year-old by Smart Mate and out of one of the Circle C broodmares, Tornados Rey of Hope. Dan scored a 214.0, which was high enough that he got to compete in the finals in the Unlimited Amateur Division on Monday the 7th. Dan scored a 211.0 that night, putting him in 9th place out of 30 competitors! Congratulations to both Dan and Mates Hope!

Tonight, Circle C's trainer, Casey Carson, will be competing in the Open Division on the same mare, Mates Hope. We wish Casey and Mates Hope the best of luck tonight!
